ASB / Main Report Regional Economic
Scoreboard
March 2012
Quarter
Economic activity
in the South Island is firing up while Auckland slides down
the rankings of the latest ASB / Main Report Regional
Economic Scoreboard. Tasman has captured the top spot
followed closely by Nelson, as the population in the upper
part of the South Island is boosted by quake-affected
Cantabrians, and the local housing market surges.
Canterbury has bounced back to share fourth place with
Auckland, with encouraging signs of recovery in the region.
Meanwhile Auckland has been affected by supply constraints
in the housing market and a decline in non-residential
construction.
The ASB / Main Report Regional
Economic Scoreboard takes the latest quarterly regional
statistics and ranks the economic performance of New
Zealand’s 16 regional economic areas. The full report is
attached, and available online.
