Tools to Farm within Limits
The resource management sector and the fertiliser industry have teamed up to assist farmers and their advisors
understand the latest tools and approaches to assist them to farm within environmental limits.
The New Zealand Association of Resource Management and Fert Research are hosting their ”Tools to Farm Within Limits”
conference in the Waikato just before National Fieldays on the afternoon of Monday June 11 and the morning of Tuesday
June 12.
“The conference aims to showcase some of the solutions that are now available to help farmers meet their environmental
and production goals,” said Philip Mladenov, Chief Executive of Fert Research.
“Most farmers are prepared to adopt good management practices, particularly when they come hand-in-hand with production
and cost benefits.
“However, they face a variety of challenges due to national and regional council policy changes, new regulations,
production demands and the constantly evolving scientific understanding of environmental issues.
“This conference will give farmers a better grasp of what is driving the changes, what is required of them, the tools
that have been developed in the past few years to assist them, and how to decide what to use, when.”
Ross Abercrombie, President of the New Zealand Association of Resource Management, said they had attracted an impressive
array of speakers to help illustrate the contextual picture.
“The conference will present the issues from a national and regional policy angle plus iwi, dairy industry and farmer
perspectives.
“A farmer panel discussion is designed to explore action at the coal face during which farmers will share their
experiences, and what they have been able to achieve with the modern tools available.
“Knowledge-sharing, practical demonstrations and forums for farmers and rural professionals to network with like minded
peers are a great way to drive practice change and this is what we hope to achieve through the Tools to Farm Within
Limits event.”
