Moa tops craft medal haul at Aussie beer awards…again
For the second year running, Moa Beer has chalked up the most medals won by a Kiwi craft brewery at the Australian International Beer Awards.
Facing competition from some the best brews from Australia and around the world, Moa Beer scooped 11 medals, six silver and five bronze to lead the Kiwi craft contingent.
“Looking at the company our medals are in gives us confidence that our beers are truly world class” says Moa Master Brewer David Nicholls.
“Silver for Moa Methode in the Bohemian Pilsner when the only other silvers were for Czech Republic beers - likewise for Moa St Josephs and Moa Pale Ale. The latter placed alongside the likes of Green Flash, Lagunitas, Mikkeller, Rogue, Ballast Point, Beer Republic, Deschutes, Boston Beer Co and Dogfish Head. That’s what I call pissing with the big dogs.”
The Marlborough brewery won medals across the range including:
· Moa Methode, silver in Bohemian style pilsner
· Moa Pale Ale, silver in American style IPA
· Moa Imperial Stout, silver in wood aged stout
· Moa St Josephs, silver in Belgian abbey tripel
· Moa St Josephs, silver for packaging
· Moa McMoa (special reserve), silver in other speciality beer
· Moa Original, bronze in Bohemian style Pilsner
· Moa Imperial Pilsner (special reserve), bronze in other pilsner
· Moa Five Hop, bronze in British style IPA
· Moa Blanc Evolution, bronze in Belgian wit (wheat beer)
· Moa Quad (special reserve), bronze in Belgian dark strong style
David also sends hearty congratulations to fellow winning Kiwis - Croucher Brewing Company (trophy for best pilsner) and Garage Project (trophy for best specialty), for what are “great beers.”
The Kiwi podium was topped by Lion Breweries with 12 medals, one more than Moa.
