Small Business Group Calls for More Clarity

Small Business Group calls for more clarity and certainty to boost small business

The Small Business Advisory Group has today called for more clarity, certainty, continuity and capability building to allow small and medium sized enterprises to operate with confidence.

The Advisory Group released its 2012 report today and suggests several areas where government interventions could make a difference to the performance of small business. These areas are:

Setting out for small businesses the strategy for New Zealand’s future economic direction, so they can make decisions with confidence

Prioritising the introduction of a single business numbering system

Enhancing communication between government and small businesses

Building business capability and ensuring that business assistance programmes remain relevant and accessible to small business owners and managers

Improving the business regulatory environment to make it easier for small firms to do business

Ensuring there is a small business perspective in the medium-term economic recovery plans for Christchurch

The Small Business Advisory Group provides a small business “voice” in the policy development process in Wellington. Ten small and medium sized business owners from around the country meet regularly in Wellington to comment on policy proposals.

The government established the Small Business Advisory Group in October 2003 to advise the Minister for Small Business and government officials about the potential and actual impacts of policies and programmes on small businesses.

The current group was appointed in January 2010 by the Minister for Small Business. They are all owners of small businesses and have been drawn from a range of business sectors and regions.

There have been three previous SBAG reports in 2004, 2006 and 2008.
