Home based elderly care business set to expand

New Zealand’s elderly population is set to double over the next 20 years and Home Instead Senior Care is looking to help these people stay at home for longer by expanding its services in New Zealand.

Home Instead is the global leader in providing in-home, non-medical care for seniors. Its services assist the elderly, allowing them to age safely and independently in their own homes, where the majority of seniors in New Zealand wish to remain.

The franchise model of this business allows people to get personal care at home from members of their local community. To keep up with the growing demand, Home Instead is looking to increase the number of branches in Auckland and other key locations around New Zealand.

Debra Jager, the first person in New Zealand to purchase a Home Instead franchise in 2007, is hosting a function on Tuesday 22 May at St Mark’s Church in Remuera from 8am to speak with people interested in becoming a franchise owner and to share her success story with others.

“There are more and more Kiwis needing aged care and it is important people know that they can stay at home. Our business makes a difference in people’s lives by giving them the choice of staying at home.

“I was attracted to Home Instead as a commercial opportunity because it was affordable and it fitted into my overall family values. I also knew I was buying into a 17 year old business model that had been hugely successful overseas, and that it was a franchise with proven systems,” she adds.

Home Instead has changed the lives of many elderly people and their families. As one customer explains, “Harriet, our Home Instead caregiver, recognised my mother’s difficulty in accepting assistance and has taken things at her pace. With her patient, gentle and respectful manner, my mother doesn’t know what she would do without her. Although she initially came to support my mother she has actually provided great support to my father as well. She supports them in a way that maintains their dignity which is very important to us.”

Bob Maguire, Home Instead’s Global Franchise Development Director, will also be at Tuesday’s event to speak to potential franchise owners and will be presenting at this year’s Alzheimer’s New Zealand conference in Wellington on Friday 25 May.

“Caring for elderly parents and grandparents is a concern for many people. Often, these older relatives are determined to stay at home but finding the adequate care can be difficult.

“It is great to be able to offer the Home Instead opportunity to people in New Zealand who are passionate about caring for the elderly and are looking to be involved in a successful business model,” says Maguire.
