Open Sourcing the Public Law Toolbox Conference
Chen Palmer New Zealand Public and Employment Law Specialists has published the video recordings of presentations at
this month’s Public Law Toolbox Conference online. The presentations can be found at www.chenpalmer.com
“The conference was a great event, which brought together practical experience and wisdom from leading experts at the
intersection between government, business and civil society, opensourcing public law.” said Founding Partner of Chen

The Public Law Toolbox Conference was held at Parliament on 1 May 2012, and featured over 30 legal experts, business
leaders, Ministers, Members of Parliament, key regulators, watchdogs and leaders in the public service.
“Each video presentation demonstrates the work being done at the coal face, by those operating at the intersection
between government, law, parliament, business, unions, advocacy groups and the public sector. Working with government
doesn’t have to be David v Goliath.” said Mai Chen.
Attendees heard practical perspectives from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade CEO John Allen, Privacy Commissioner
Marie Shroff, Kohanga Reo founder Dame Iritana Tawhiwhirangi, President of the Council of Trade Unions Helen Kelly,
Chief Executive of Microsoft New Zealand Paul Muckleston, Chair of Business New Zealand Phil O’Reilly, Supreme Court
Judge Justice Blanchard, Auditor General Lyn Provost, Ombudsman Dr David McGee, Health and Disability Commissioner
Anthony Hill, Chief Human Rights Commissioner David Rutherford, Financial Markets Authority CEO Sean Hughes, and
Founding Partner of Chen Palmer Mai Chen, and more.
Each speaker gave an a 7 minute presentation on how to use public law tools to solve problems with and within
government. These are now online for all citizens to access, as part of Chen Palmer’s ongoing commitment to opensourcing
public law.
