Leading construction firm endorses CCDU appointment
The appointment of the Canterbury business consortium led by Boffa Miskell to design the blueprint for the central Christchurch rebuild, has been enthusiastically welcomed by leading Christchurch construction company, Leighs Construction Ltd.
Managing director Anthony Leighs said the news that the contract had been won by the local consortium was “fantastic news.”
“We fully support it. It is a fantastic and very positive appointment for the city. All the companies involved in the consortium are good, strong companies who understand Christchurch, are highly experienced in design and planning, and are accomplished at achieving at the highest level.
“It is a tight timeframe for them, and we will be waiting excitedly for their blueprint for the development in the CCDU. We are not only fully supportive of their appointment, but also fully confident of their ability to produce what undoubtedly will be a stunning design for the central Christchurch rebuild.”
The Boffa Miskell-led consortium includes representatives from Populous, Woods Bagot, Sheppard and Rout, Warren and Mahoney and RCP. It was one of four high calibre, short-listed tenders from which the Central Christchurch Development Unit (CCDU) made its choice.
The consortium must now design the architectural, engineering and urban planning elements of the central city rebuild. The document is due on July 27.
Leighs Construction has played a major role to date in demolition work and early rebuilds in Christchurch.
“We are looking forward to continuing to play a leading role and to working positively with the CCDU,” said Mr Leighs.
