Fastway Couriers meet ‘Urgent’ demand in Christchurch
Businesses moving goods within Christchurch's city limits and immediate outskirts will benefit thanks to a new, franchise-first, Urgent Delivery Service, launched by Fastway Couriers Christchurch. Introduced to meet local demand, the new service allows businesses to move up to 50kgs of goods within a 20km radius of the city in 2 hours or less, and so far has proven to be a successful addition to Fastway’s service offering with a large volume of deliveries made every week.
Dave Streatfield, GM Fastway Couriers Christchurch, says the service resulted from the changing needs of local businesses in the aftermath of the February 2011 earthquake.
"As they say, necessity breeds invention, and our new Urgent Delivery Service is certainly no exception. After the quake, we found that limited warehouse facilities meant there was a growing requirement for local businesses to transport their goods across town quickly and with very short notice. Although this kind of service is not part of Fastway's service offering, we felt that it was important to support Christchurch by implementing a system for speedy and cost-effective small-volume deliveries," says Dave.
Streatfield says the new service continues to experience steady growth.
"Since we launched the Urgent Delivery Service in March, we've experienced rapid growth to the point where we find ourselves reaching capacity. We're certainly going to continue these deliveries for the foreseeable future, with a view to possibly making it a permanent fixture in our service line-up if demand continues," says Streatfield.
Fastway Couriers is now considering rolling out the Urgent Delivery Service to other regions of New Zealand.
Fastway Couriers New Zealand Chief Executive, Bruce Speers, says Fastway fully supports franchisee innovation, and strongly supports Streatfield's efforts in Christchurch.
"It's great to see our franchisees supporting local businesses and responding to changes in the market with new solutions. We will be keeping a keen eye on the performance of Dave's new service, with a view to potentially implement the service in other regions and markets," says Speers.
