Thomson Reuters Innovative New Legal Online Service Debuts in New Zealand

Westlaw NZ enables customers to make better decisions faster

Monday 30 April 2012

Wellington, New Zealand, 30 April 2012 – Thomson Reuters, the world’s leading source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals, announced that it has launched Westlaw NZ, the latest development in online research for legal professionals in New Zealand.

Westlaw NZ offers unrivaled content from case law and journals, legislation and commentary to precedents and news, as well as tax information. The technology behind the intuitive search capability within Westlaw NZ helps direct users to precise points of law and extends a new level of confidence that information is authoritative, current and the results are comprehensive.

Built upon state-of-the-art Westlaw technology, Westlaw NZ was developed specifically for New Zealand customers and modeled after Thomson Reuters online legal information services in the United Kingdom, United States, Asia, India and South America.

“This launch is a significant milestone for Thomson Reuters, and builds on the success of the Brookers Online platform, launched in 2006. It also enhances our position as New Zealand’s leading and most trusted legal information and solutions provider.” said Haydn Davies, country manager for Thomson Reuters in New Zealand. “It represents an outstanding example of what can be achieved when we listen to our customers and apply local knowledge and expertise to a globally developed platform.”

Davies added that Westlaw NZ also features FindCase, the country’s most comprehensive case law product with over 50,000 searchable judgments from New Zealand’s superior courts. Additional features of Westlaw NZ allow for the creation of alerts for new content, and the ability to create and customize folders to organize, store and retrieve information efficiently.

Westlaw NZ was developed through a collaborative effort with New Zealand legal professionals participating in surveys, focus groups and interviews, and sharing valuable ideas and insights. Through product development, customers demonstrated how they search and work with legal information, and also tested the prototypes, ensuring Westlaw NZ was being built to meet their needs.

Westlaw NZ is the latest in a series of Westlaw services to be developed for legal professionals in key global markets. Thomson Reuters recently launched Westlaw Gulf, developed specifically for legal professionals in the Middle East, and Revista dos Tribunais Online, Brazil’s first online legal research tool. It also offers Westlaw services for practitioners in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, India, China, Spain and other countries.
