Sourcefire Next-Generation IPS Excels in Security Effectiveness According to NSS Labs Product Analysis
FirePOWER(TM) Appliances Prove Exceptional in Detection, Protection, Performance and Scalability
Auckland, New Zealand 18 April 12 — Sourcefire, Inc. (NASDAQ: FIRE), a leader in intelligent cybersecurity solutions, today announced that its FirePOWER™ appliances protected against 99 percent of all attacks, according to recent NSS Labs independent IPS tests, exceeding Sourcefire's previous industry record of 98 percent set in 2011. NSS Labs tested three appliances, the 8260, 8250 and 8120, demonstrating consistency in security effectiveness, exceptional performance and scalability across Sourcefire's Next-Generation Intrusion Prevention System (NGIPS) platform.
"For the past four years, Sourcefire has consistently achieved excellent results in security effectiveness based on our real-world evaluations of exploit evasions, threat block rate and protection capabilities," said Vikram Phatak, CTO of NSS Labs. "The Sourcefire FirePOWER appliances also increased performance capacity over previous tests, making them a good choice for multi-gigabit environments."
Security Effectiveness and Performance
All three FirePOWER appliances achieved 99 percent in overall detection and protection and the 8260 became one of the first IPS appliances tested at more than 30 Gbps for real world traffic inspection. Additional highlights according to NSS Labs product analysis:
Sourcefire 8260
34 Gbps of inspected throughput when measured against a real world mix of traffic
Over 60M concurrent connections
TCO less than $15 per Mbps protected
Sourcefire 8250
17 Gbps of inspected throughput when measured against a real world mix of traffic
Over 30M concurrent connections
TCO less than $19 per Mbps protected
Sourcefire 8120
3.4 Gbps of inspected throughput when measured against a real world mix of traffic
Over 15M concurrent connections
TCO $34 per Mbps protected
Based on FirePOWER technology, the 8260, 8250 and 8120 address enterprise requirements for flexible configurations, maximum protection, and faster processing of network data. FirePOWER acceleration technology provides market-leading performance with lower power consumption, allowing enterprises better threat detection and protection while maintaining a proven total cost of ownership (TCO). Demonstrated by product analysis reports, the FirePOWER appliances' consistent and linear performance results make them a trusted solution for enterprise customers who need to scale theirnetwork security deployments with larger throughput models.
"NSS Labs test results further support what we have achieved for years, Sourcefire is the de facto standard for Next-Generation IPS," said Martin Roesch, founder and CTO of Sourcefire. "We've proven that customers do not need to sacrifice security effectiveness, performance or TCO to secure their dynamic and growing networks."
