Thoroughbreds get Turbo-charged; Head-to-Head option launched
The TAB’s popular new Turbo Quaddie comes to domestic thoroughbred racing for the first time this Saturday.
With four races run within 35 minutes across three thoroughbred race meetings, the Turbo Quaddie offers punters a rapid-fire shot at a big collect – boosted by the TAB’s injection of a $20,000 bonus.
The Turbo Quaddie has been available on harness racing previously, but Saturday marks its first offering on domestic thoroughbred racing.
It kicks off with the Group 3 Lynn Electrical Cup at Hawke’s Bay at 3.36pm on Saturday and will be all over in little more than half-an-hour.
As with a regular Quaddie, punters need to select the winner in all four selected Turbo Quaddie races this Saturday:
Meeting number 30, Turbo Quaddie
• Leg 1 at 3.36pm: Race 7 at Hawke’s Bay
• Leg 2 at 3.46pm: Race 6 at Tauranga
• Leg 3 at 4.01pm: Race 8 at Canterbury
• Leg 4 at 4.11pm: Race 8 at Hawke’s Bay
Meanwhile, fans of New Zealand thoroughbred racing have a new option to punt on, with the TAB launching a trial of Head-to-Head (Fixed Odds) betting on domestic meetings.
The new option means punters can bet on two selected starters from each race on a head-to-head basis – that is for the selected runner to finish ahead the other runner.
“In essence it’s a race within a race,” said New Zealand Racing Board General Manager Wagering, Racing and Sport Martin Saunders. “You’re not picking a runner to necessarily win or place but rather to simply finish ahead of another runner. And, as a Fixed Odds bet, it means punters will be able to include this option within their Multis.”
The Head-to-Head option will be available on all domestic thoroughbred racing weekdays, with selected opportunities on weekend racing. The odds can be found at www.tab.co.nz by clicking on “Racing”, then “Fixed Odds (other)” and then “NZ Racing”.
Minimum Fixed Odds Bet Decreased
The TAB has reduced the $5 minimum Fixed Odds racing and sports bet to just $1 for a limited time.
Mr Saunders said the trial had been launched in response to long-standing customer demand.
“It brings the Fixed Odds minimum bet in line with the Tote minimum bet, thereby delivering consistency for punters, and it’s also a great way for punters to have a go at Multis for a bigger return at a lower bet value.”
The $5 minimum bet remains via Phonebet, with the minimum for Touch-Tone $2.
