Crown Institute student awarded scholarship with New Caledonia Tourism
New Caledonia Tourism has presented a talented tourism student with its 2012 scholarship. Rachael Fenton is studying
Travel and Tourism at Crown Institute of Studies. Rachael was one of many students who applied for the scholarship this
year. Out of the several students interviewed, New Caledonia Tourism was impressed with Rachael’s enthusiasm.
“When interviewing students for our scholarship we look for qualities such as strong communication skills, a positive
attitude and passion for the industry,” said Simon Duffy, General Manager of New Caledonia Tourism. “Rachael’s
demonstrated all of these qualities, expressing a desire to pursue a career in the travel industry We look forward to
having her as part of the NCT team.”
“What a great opportunity”, says Rachael “there are a few reasons why I applied for the New Caledonia scholarship. First
of all, seeing Simon Duffy talk so enthusiastically about his passion for New Caledonia really sold me and I put my name
forward for the New Caledonia scholarship”.
Rachel will undertake work experience at the New Caledonia Tourism office until the end of the year and receive $1000
towards her course costs at the completion of her studies.
“I really look forward to working with Simon and his team this year and I know it will be a great experience. I am so
thrilled that I have been given this chance. I know how tough it is in the workforce and I hope it will help secure me a
great job in the Travel Industry once finishing at Crown Institute”.
General Manager Simon Duffy, founded the scholarship program in 2006 in conjunction with Crown Institute of Studies.
Part of the scholarship package was work experience at the New Caledonia Tourism office and $1000 towards her course
costs at the completion of her studies.
