Awards Benefits Valued

Awards Benefits Valued

For the first time, a value has been put on the tangible benefits of entering the Kapiti Horowhenua Electra Business Awards.

BKH says there are five key tangible benefits that are conservatively valued at more than $1,300.

They are:
* An Entry Coordinator, who is a professional Business Consultant, to lead entrants through the entry process
* Access to a half day workshop, run by the assessors working through the entry form and assisting each entrant to see how it relates to their business
* An invitation to attend an entrants networking function with guest speaker
* Promotion in the Kapiti Observer, on Beach FM and on the Awards website. If the entrant goes on to become a finalist or winner the amount of promotion is doubled!
* Assessment and feedback on the business benchmarked alongside other businesses

Chair of the awards organisers, Business Kapiti Horowhenua, Tony Rush, says it is impossible to put a value on the intangible benefits that entrants receive but they are often priceless to the development of the business.

According to a survey conducted by the organisers of past entrants, there are seven key intangible benefits:
* Opportunity to step back and review what the business does
* Identifying improvements to the running of the business
* Receiving professional business advice/feedback
* Recognition for the business
* Benchmarking for the business
* A lift in staff morale
* Publicly celebrating all the hard work of owners and employees and their successes

The organiser’s views are supported by last year’s Electra Business of the year, Tuatara Brewery, that told organisers "The entry process was robust and we enjoyed that aspect of it...it confirmed our view that there is a right way to run a company and the questions confirmed that the judges were looking for things that we also felt were important."

The 2010 Electra Business of the year, Aura Information Security, said” Entering the awards means stopping and evaluating your business from all angles and that is something that as business owners we seldom have time to do. However this process of stepping back to scrutinise can open up a huge realisation of potential that you could possibly be over looking every day!”

Entries for 2012 will open 30 April and close 8 June. Upon submission, each entrant business will pay a fee of $100.

The Kapiti Horowhenua Business Awards have been running since 1993. The original organiser, Roy Waterson, who, at that time was General Manager of the former Kapiti Horowhenua Business Development Board, died earlier this year in Hamilton.
