GO UK Winner Announced

GO UK Winner Announced

One of New Zealand’s glamour biotech companies has won the Go UK award and can now set up shop in the United Kingdom.

UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) announced that the winner of the GO UK competition is Lanza Tech who just a week ago made the Bloomberg Top 10 global innovative energy companies.

LanzaTech Finance Manager-Operations Beno Samuel says it is a huge honour and very exciting.

“Although LanzaTech has its roots in New Zealand, we are very much a global company having offices in the US, China and India.

“The UK and Europe, however, has been very much on our radar and is a place of tremendous potential for our business,” says Mr Samuel.

The GO UK competition invited New Zealand companies to submit business plans for a chance to win a $30,000 prize package including airfares and professional services.

Her Excellency the British High Commissioner Mrs Vicki Treadell says all the finalists (Top Five)* were of the highest calibre and that it’s very encouraging to see many New Zealand businesses looking to expand into the UK market given the economic uncertainty.

“New Zealand has a long and proud history of small businesses taking their ideas to the world and succeeding.

“We have every confidence that LanzaTech will quickly establish themselves, make an impact in Europe, continue to deliver strong results and put New Zealand on the map,” says Mrs Treadell.

“Winning this prize package will certainly make our entry into the UK a lot smoother – if only we had this prize when we were setting up in other international markets,” says Mr Samuel.

About LanzaTech
Founded in 2005 in NZ, LanzaTech has developed a fully sustainable integrative carbon capture platform that enables the production of fuels and chemicals without any impact on food or water security.

LanzaTech’s wholly owned and patented unique gas fermentation technology uses a microbe to convert gas (rich in CO and CO2) into fuels and chemicals. LanzaTech’s microbe can utilise the lowest cost, most readily available resources, including hydrogen-free gases such as: industrial flue gases from steel mills and processing plants; syngas generated from any biomass resource (e.g. MSW, organic industrial waste, agricultural waste); coal derived syngas and steam reformed methane. Using steel mill gases alone, LanzaTech could produce more than 30 billion gallons of ethanol/ year.
