Syl Semantics appoints Bob Forgan as its Operations Manager

Wellington-based software company Syl Semantics has appointed Bob Forgan as its operations manager following the launch late last year of the company’s next generation enterprise search platform, Syl Search.

Bob began his ICT career as an applications support programmer with the Wellington Regional Council. After working overseas, he held senior positions with the Ministry of Software (now known as Simpl), Working Knowledge, the Hunter Group, and Forethought Partners, which he founded. He joins Syl Semantics from ATLAS Technology, the commercial software development arm of Scion, where he was General Manager.

At Syl Semantics, Bob is responsible for managing the company’s projects, implementations and customer support. Bob is also responsible for establishing and scaling Syl Semantics' business processes to support the market expansion of Syl Search.

SYL Semantics’ chief executive Sean Wilson said, “We are fortunate to have secured Bob for this new role. He has a proven track record of putting in place the necessary processes to upscale the company to support the uptake of our products and services.”

SYL Search's point of difference is that its search engine is an information access tool enabling enterprises to find information based on the context of words in any file or database record, automatically understanding synonyms, acronyms and relationships. The semantic search engine evaluates a much wider portion of content and its context when evaluating a search request, much as the human brain does.

Syl Search has already generated considerable market interest, with three significant government agencies signing contracts with the company in the last quarter and a rapidly growing business pipeline. Syl Semantics expects to announce a significant development in the near future.

Formed in 2008, Syl Semantics is a privately held company. The three-and-a-half year development programme behind Syl Search was partly co-funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
