BP boss’ Give Way challenge
With the biggest road rule change in 30 years just around the corner, BP Oil NZ Managing Director, Mike McGuinness is challenging all New Zealanders to score 100 percent on GiveWay.co.nz. Since last week people have been taking the most realistic Give Way test out for a spin.
GiveWay.co.nz is a simulated car ride that allows kiwis to test their confidence and knowledge of the new rules without the road safety risk.
Mr McGuinness says he is encouraging everyone to jump on the website and road test the new rules. “Graphics on the simulator programme are taken from real images of New Zealand roads, so it’s a realistic way for drivers of all ages to build their confidence ahead of the rule change on Sunday.”
Created by eDrive and sponsored by BP, GiveWay.co.nz takes drivers through 14 real-life scenarios, testing them on whether or not they should give way.
eDrive founder Dr Robert Isler says Giveway.co.nz was created after rigorous research into New Zealand driver behaviour. “The modules are designed to challenge people to make the correct decision when faced with some of the most common road user situations.”
Both Mr McGuinness and Mr Isler believe every New Zealand driver should score 14 out of 14 before hitting the road after 5.30am this Sunday.
“On the road there’s only one chance to get it right. Giveway.co.nz gives you as many chances as you need to test yourself without the risk of an accident,” says Mr Isler.
Mr McGuinness agrees and says, “Virtually all our customers are road users and constantly turning left and right into and out of petrol stations. Their safety is important to us, so we want to ensure they have every opportunity to memorise the new Give Way rules in readiness for the change.”
