NZ Bakers Put The “Bun” Into Fundraising

19 March 2012

Bakers Delight bakers across New Zealand are set to bake over 21,000 hot cross buns on Saturday 24 March, to raise money for kids at the Starship Children’s Hospital.

On ‘Bundraiser Day’ all 32 New Zealand bakeries will donate $1 from every six-pack of hot cross buns sold to raise over $3,000 for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The NICU provides care for premature babies as young as 24 weeks and as small as 500gms, the weight of a block of butter.

Money raised will fund the purchase of Parent Journals and materials and linen for incubators, aiming to make the NICU environment as much like a home nursery as possible for New Zealand families.
“Our hospital staff work hard to support parents by creating a nurturing, positive environment, including using coloured bed sheets and muslin wraps for the babies. Without the generous support of Bakers Delight this would not be possible,” said Debbie Eade, Clinical Charge Nurse of NICU.

Scott Paterson, Country Manager New Zealand commented, “Easter is by far our busiest time of the year, so it’s a great opportunity to give back to the Starship Children’s Hospital.”

“We’ve set ourselves a goal of surpassing our Bundraiser fundraising effort from last year and we’ll be busy baking to achieve that. We encourage all our customers to make their hot cross bun purchase count on March 24.”

For 32 years Bakers Delight bakers have been baking fresh hot cross buns from scratch, each day in the lead up to Easter. This year will be no different with Traditional, Choc Chip and Fruitless varieties available.
