Sacred Hill strikes gold with Marlborough whites

Duo of Royal Easter Show Wine Awards reflect exceptional vintage

Sacred Hill Wines has claimed two gold medals, for its 2011 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and 2011 Marlborough Pinot Gris, at the Royal Easter Show Wine Awards – one of the most prestigious wine shows in New Zealand.
This is the second gold medal Sacred Hill Wines has received for its 2011 Sauvignon Blanc, which previously won Pure Gold at the Air NZ Wine Awards in November last year.

Grapes for the 2011 vintage of Sauvignon were sourced from a carefully selected range of quality fruit across the Marlborough region.
Sacred Hill Chief Winemaker, Tony Bish, said the exceptional quality allowed the winery scope to work with different blends.

“These wines are some of the best produced in years and truly reflect the region’s capacity to produce a world leading style of wine,” Mr Bish said.
The Royal Easter Show Wine Awards received a total of 1,261 entries, and a record 111 gold medals were awarded by chairman of judges, Kate Radburnd and Australian deputy chair of judges Mike DeGaris.

Sacred Hill also received a silver medal for its 2010 Sacred Hill Halo Hawke’s Bay Syrah.

“Winning a gold award at two prestigious wine shows for the 2011 Sauvignon Blanc shows that we areconsistently producing some of New Zealand’s finest Sauvignon Blancs . These awards reinforce our quality approach to viticulture and winemaking,”Mr Bish said.

Winners of the trophies will be announced at the awards dinner on 17 March.
