ACC media privacy update

13 March 2012

ACC media privacy update

ACC apologises for the release of some client information. It was a regrettable breach of process. No personal information about individual client's case histories was in the document. It was sent to one ACC client. The information has been destroyed and we have received a signed affidavit that it has been.

In December, when it came to ACC's attention, we formally advised the client to return to us any information they may have held. The client would not respond. Until today, they would not confirm that they had any confidential information.

These are difficult cases because many people make allegations to us that they are in receipt of confidential information. We investigate when we have specific information. In this case, we wish we had done more.

We are currently communicating with all clients who were affected to apologise to them.

We continue to review our process and we again repeat our regret that this breach occurred.
