Telecom and Enable partner to deliver UFB to Christchurch

Telecom and Enable partner to deliver UFB to Christchurch

Telecom announced today it has signed a wholesale services agreement with Enable to deliver fibre-based services, including ultra-fast broadband, in Christchurch.

The agreement will enable Telecom, and its Gen-i ICT business, to maintain a strong focus on innovation and development in Christchurch.

Enable is the Government’s partner responsible for delivering ultra-fast fibre broadband to homes and businesses in Christchurch and surrounding centres as part of the national UFB initiative.

CEO Gen-i, Chris Quin, said that the agreement was aligned with the Government’s objective of prioritising business use of ultra-fast broadband, and would build on Gen-i’s significant existing client base and capability in Christchurch.

“With the rollout of UFB across New Zealand, businesses are looking for ICT solutions that use fibre to increase productivity and innovation, deliver flexibility and robustness, and generally be as efficient as possible.

“They are looking for help to develop solutions that harness fibre’s capabilities to deliver exciting new applications in areas such as cloud, mobility, video and collaboration.

“We’ve seen increased demand for innovation and change from our Christchurch clients as they enhance their ICT capability to re-build their businesses and meet changing market demands.

“We look forward to signing up our first business clients to fibre services over Enable’s network soon, and partnering with them to realise the full benefits of ultra-fast broadband and create economic value for the Canterbury region,” Mr Quin said.

Telecom is looking to work with Enable to trial bitstream services for residential customers.
