4.5% Total international passenger volumes (excluding transit passengers) at Auckland Airport increased by 4.5% versus January 2011. This was driven by a 25.9% increase in passengers, compared to January 2011, on Asian routes. Routes to/from China, Korea and Singapore performed particularly strongly. With Chinese New Year falling in January this year instead of February, there may be some substitution of growth next month.

777,120 January 2012 was the busiest month ever at Auckland International Airport with 777,120 international passengers processed. January also contained the busiest week (week ending the 8th of January 2012) and busiest day (7th January) ever at the international terminal.

5.7% Domestic passenger volumes for January 2012 were 5.7% up on January 2011. This was driven by some domestic passenger growth from Air NZ and particularly strong domestic growth on Jetstar flights.

58.0% Travel to Auckland by passengers resident in China continued to be strong in January 2012 with a 58.0% increase on January 2011 and a 4,323 increase in arrival passengers compared to the previous month. This was driven by Chinese New Year falling in January rather than February and the continued success of daily
