Police Commissioner Peter Marshall said today that the National Manager of Road Policing, Superintendent Paula Rose, was retiring from Police.
The Commissioner said that Superintendent Rose had been a highly effective National Manager of Road Policing.
"Last year's road toll was the lowest since 1952, a testament to the commitment and dedication of Paula and her team to take the public with us in reducing death and trauma on the roads.
"Paula goes from Police with thanks for a job well done and our very best wishes for the future.
Superintendent Rose is currently relieving as District Commander in Southern Police District and will complete the posting.
"I have had a wonderful career in Police and I know there will be much that I will miss but I believe the time is right for me to move on," she said today.
I have worked with some truly outstanding people and had some outstanding experiences, especially in my time as National Manager - Road Policing, a position which has a very high public profile and attracts much attention and discussion.
It has been a real challenge at times, but I do know that if we all work together, Police, our partners and the community, we can make a difference - in fact we have, especially when it comes to lowering the road toll."
Superintendent Rose has had a long career in NZ Police which has spanned a range of locations and roles, including strategic, policy and organisational performance positions along with operational roles.
In 2007 she was awarded the Aotearoa Foreign and Commonwealth Fellowship and spent two months working with the Home Office and Police jurisdictions in England and Scotland.
Road safety has always been an overriding passion for Superintendent Rose and will remain so for the foreseeable future.
