LegaSea looking to a bright future

LegaSea is a new initiative with the vision of achieving more fish in the water and a healthy marine environment as a legacy for ourchildren.

A well established organisation is taking the lead. The New Zealand Sport Fishing Council and its partners are expecting the initiative to appeal nationally, because New Zealanders love fishing and marine recreation.

Mark Connor, Council President is very excited about the LegaSea development.

“We are all islanders with some salt in our veins. LegaSea is a practical way to protect our Kiwi identity and lifestyle that is dependent on the sea and its bounty.”

Over the past few decades more fish and marine space have been assigned to private use and the public has been the biggest loser. The Council believes it is time for all New Zealanders to come together.

Mark is confident, “Most people want their grandchildren to enjoy fishing and playing around our coasts as we did. It is the generosity of the older generations that will enhance the value for our youngsters.

“Even if people don’t fish, dive or sail, their kids probably do. LegaSea is for everyone, and at just $20 each it’s affordable for most families.”

The New Zealand Sport Fishing Council (Inc) has launched this web-based initiative at www.legasea.co.nz.

LegaSea will provide a simple way for caring individuals to contribute to a better future for all.

“For too long the burden has fallen on the time or dedication of a few volunteers and part time professionals. This is not sustainable. It’s in our national interest to do better.

“Let’s get in behind LegaSea and strive for success through funding quality advocacy, research, education and by working together”, exhorts Mr Connor.

LegaSea will be officially launched at Oram’s Marine Centre, Auckland, on 9th February.
