Crusaders travel on the TranzAlpine

The Crusaders squad are travelling on KiwiRail’s TranzAlpine train from Christchurch to Greymouth today, two days before their pre-season match with the Highlanders.

Acting Team Manager Angus Gardiner says the train was a good way for the players to see parts of the South Island they may not have seen before and to do it in a more spacious and comfortable setting than other travel options.

“The train is a great way for the guys to see some of the spectacular scenery that the Christchurch to Greymouth journey offers and it offers them more space and freedom to move around,” Mr Gardiner says.

“There’s a bit of team planning that we’ll look to undertake on the train, and it will be much easier to do this in the space a train offers.”

KiwiRail’s Tranz Scenic South Island Manager Tony McManus says it’s great to have a team like the Crusaders travelling on the TranzAlpine.

“The Crusaders have a lot of fans, and it’s great that they want to experience the TranzAlpine train journey. We are more than happy to be hosting them and we’re very certain they’ll enjoy the scenery – amidst their team talks of course.”

The Crusaders joined more than 150 other passengers on the TranzAlpine train to Greymouth, which departed Christchurch’s Addington Station this morning.
