Ports of Auckland Comment re: Proposed Industrial Action

Ports of Auckland said it was yet to receive a 7th strike notice from the Maritime Union of New Zealand – Local 13.

However, Port CEO, Tony Gibson said in the event that a notice is received, port operations would be maintained seamlessly with non-union staff and the company would be working to ensure that customers were not affected.

Third party contractors already operate the conventional (non-container terminal) port facilities in Auckland.

Mr Gibson said the company’s preference had always been to resolve the issues with MUNZ through dialogue, and that the company would continue to consult over its proposal to contract out labour at the container terminal.
