POAL company documents show senior management running own agenda

The Maritime Union have released a copy of a Ports of Auckland Limited management strategy document to contract out the
port dating from before collective agreement negotiations commenced in 2011.
MUNZ National President Garry Parsloe says the document shows POAL management have been pursuing a deliberate strategy
of ramping up the current industrial dispute while saying they want to resolve it.
The draft management plan sets out a comprehensive contracting out plan, disparages the ports owners and board of
directors, and predetermines there is no intention of seeking a negotiated solution.
"There was never any intention to genuinely negotiate or mediate, there has just been public relations spin and an
extreme anti-worker agenda."
Mr Parsloe says the document shows that POAL management have been running their own agenda for some time, with the
document describing port owners and the board of directors as having "folded" in a previous dispute.
He says POAL management need to give an explanation as to how it perceives POAL directors and owners in this way, whose
interests are POAL management serving, and where do their loyalties lie.
"Who exactly are Ports of Auckland management working for? Because it is now clear that they do not see themselves as
answerable to the people of Auckland, but rather industry mates and personal political allies."
Mr Parsloe says the document shows far from being the reasonable employer seeking a productive workforce through good
faith negotiations, POAL senior management have been running a planned strategy from the start.
He says that it was important that the public was very clear that management of a public owned company were pursuing a
deliberate planned strategy to deunionize, casualize and outsource jobs of hard working Auckland people.
"The damage to the port is being entirely self-inflicted by its own management."
