Auckland, 9 January 2012: Wotif.co.nz has released its top 10 destinations in New Zealand for 2011, based on bookings made through the leading accommodation website.

Despite challenges throughout the year for the New Zealand tourism industry, the list has not changed significantly from 2010.

Auckland and Wellington maintained the top two spots in 2011, in first and second place respectively, with Queenstown and Christchurch swapping places for third and fourth.

General Manager Wotif Brands Megan Magill said the list was compiled from more than 250,000 bookings per month made on Wotif.com during 2011.

“We release this list every year and were surprised to see there were only a few movements in the 2011 list, despite a challenging year for New Zealand tourism,” Ms Magill said.

“The South Island added another destination to the national top ten, with Nelson knocking Palmerston North off the list to take tenth place.

“The Rugby World Cup also had a big impact on tourism in 2011 with an influx of international and domestic travel to game destinations,” she said.
