The Cruise Industry Is On The Crest Of A Wave

Thousands of Kiwis are now opting for holidays at sea with sales having doubled in December 2011 compared to the same month of the previous year. Kiwis are also embracing the international fly-cruise option and are taking off overseas to explore the world’s most picturesque and famous waterways.

As a result of increasing demand, Cruiseabout, New Zealand’s dedicated cruise retailer, has announced the opening of its fourth store in Takapuna, Auckland.

Cruiseabout leader, Jessica Allan, said the demand for cruising has continued to rise because of greater industry competition and options to suit all budgets.

“With a large amount of competition and a wide variety of cruises now available, cruising has become one of the most popular and affordable ways to travel. There is something to suit everyone’s budget. Cruises are great value when you calculate the nightly rate and consider the inclusions and the stopovers.

“Cruise ships are fantastic value for money because they are all inclusive – meals, entertainment, transport and accommodation. This makes it particularly easy when financially planning for your holiday as most of your costs are paid for upfront.”

While the traditional destinations such as the South Pacific and Australia remain popular cruise destinations, Kiwis are also looking further abroad.

“The fly-cruise option is becoming increasingly popular as people look to travel further afield to destinations such as the Caribbean, Mediterranean and Europe. This allows them to visit multiple destinations without having to spend long durations on a plane and live out of their suitcase.

“With anything from a three day local cruise to a round-the-world trip, the opportunities with cruising are almost endless – there is something to suit every Kiwi.”

Cruiseabout Takapuna opens on Monday 9 January 2012 at 98 Hurstmere Road, Takapuna.
