Want an upgrade? Make us an offer
More Air New Zealand passengers will be travelling in style with the trial of a new offer based system for last minute long haul seat upgrades.
On long haul flights where opportunities for upgrades exist, Economy and Premium Economy ticket holders who’ve booked directly with Air New Zealand (online, via the Contact Centre or at an Air New Zealand Holidays store) may receive an email inviting them to make an offer to upgrade to the next cabin class.
Passengers whose offers are accepted will receive email confirmation several days prior to travel. Where offers are similar, preference will be given to Air New Zealand’s most frequent flyers according to their Airpoints membership status.
“The OneUp trial is a unique way for passengers to have the chance at an upgrade when they might not otherwise be able to afford it,” says Air New Zealand’s Group General Manager International Airline, Christopher Luxon. “It’s also a win for the airline, enabling us to earn additional revenue from seats that would previously travel empty.”
OneUp upgrades will occur after Air New Zealand Airpoints upgrades have been allowed for. That means upgrades that would have occurred prior to the OneUp programme are not affected by the trial.
OneUp has been successfully trialled with passengers who purchased tickets in North America, United Kingdom and Australia. Today’s announcement now extends that trial to include passengers ticketed ex New Zealand to travel to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver Hong Kong, Shanghai or Beijing; as well as passengers travelling between Los Angeles and London and Hong Kong and London.
