Specialist BodyFX Company Open Store, Studio and School

Tonight sees the launch of the Auckland studio, shop and school of BodyFX, New Zealand's largest make-up company.

Founded a decade ago by Nicole Heydenrijk and daughters Yolanda Bartram and Myrtha Heydenrijk, have many years’ experience in body painting, face painting, make-up and special FX.

Multiple award winners, the trio who are from the Netherlands but call New Zealand home, and have competed in national and international competitions. The Kingsland studio/shop/school is the brainchild of Yolanda, who saw a gap in the market and decided to fill it.

"Special FX makeup of a high standard isn't readily available here, so we decided to open BodyFX," she says. "I wanted to share what I do with those wanting to learn, and it seemed a logical step to open a shop with a school in mind for the future," she says. "But then we found the space in Kingsland and decided to seize the moment - for us, having a space here is like the cherry on top.”

The new premises have an upstairs classroom and photography studio, while the school will start with a selection of programmes and courses that will expand in 2012. "There is so much creative talent here, I wanted to give anyone the opportunity to showcase what is achievable."

The shop will offer face and body art products as well as airbrush make-up, special FX and a full range of BodyFX prosthetics, while programs at the school will include make-up, face painting and body art, airbrushing, special FX, hair and nail design and a variety of workshops. Meanwhile Yolanda herself will continue to offer her services for anything from character make-overs to full body art, with a view to moving into fashion and beauty editorial.

BodyFX is also excited about close proximity to costume and prop hire company First Scene - so people getting dressed up can follow up costume shopping with special FX makeover 3 doors down, so anyone can “experience what it’s like to be transformed”. “With over 15 years in the makeup industry I have learned that there are no rules to cosmetics," says Bartram. "Makeup is ageless, raceless and designed for everyone. With all that BodyFX has on offer, editorial shoots in this country can be taken to an international level," she says.

"The New Zealand media is now really only limited by their imagination, and I really want to show the world what we can do."
