New Southern Cross Medical Care Society Board Appointment

Ruawai dairy farmer Greg Gent has been elected to the Board of the not-for-profit Southern Cross Medical Care Society, New Zealand’s largest health insurer with around 830,000 members.

Mr Gent has a strong record of governance experience in mutual/co-operative businesses, insurance and health, recently stepping down after ten years as a director of New Zealand’s largest co-operative business, Fonterra. Mr Gent currently chairs Farmers Mutual Group (a mutual rural insurance company) and was appointed to the Northland District Health Board by the Minister of Health in 2010.

“Greg will be a very valuable addition to the Board. His combination of experience, particularly in the governance of large, complex mutual businesses, aligns very well with the needs of Southern Cross,” said Chairman Graeme Hawkins.

Mr Gent replaces Mark Verbiest, who has retired to focus on his new role as Chair of Telecom.
