NetHui coming to Auckland again in 2012
Media Release - 7 December, 2011
Following the outstanding success of the inaugural NetHui 2011 conference, InternetNZ (Internet New Zealand Inc) is pleased to announce a more-than-repeat performance - NetHui 2012. Part of the unique NetHui 2011 flavour came from keeping the registration fee at a very affordable level, $30 plus GST. In 2012, the registration fee continues to be very affordable but slightly higher at $34.78 plus GST for all 3 days.
This conference will again bring together the many different sectors and communities with an interest in the Internet to discuss the hot issues, network with each other, and provide a fertile ground for collaboration.
Chief Executive Vikram Kumar says "The first NetHui attracted 500 participants, demonstrating the need for people to get together, talk about the benefits and how to realise them, and deal with key Internet-related issues in our society and economy."
NetHui 2012 will be held over three days from
11-13 July 2012 in Auckland. The theme of NetHui is
“Shaping our Future Together” and the uniqueness of the
conference is a programme of participatory discussions that
really get people talking to each other and across sectors.
InternetNZ also provides NetHui as a way for all
communities of interest involved with the Internet in New
Zealand to have an in-person meeting economically alongside
the conference. Interested people and organisations can
email Richard Wood at the contact address below for more
details.
“InternetNZ is proud to facilitate a conference
that is like the Internet itself - where everyone is an
equal and valued participant. NetHui seeks to bring together
different perspectives on Internet-related issues leading to
networked action,” says Kumar.
Leaders in business,
government and civil society will be called upon to endorse
the conference again in 2012. Their role will be to provide
their valuable stakeholder perspective on topic areas and to
reach out deep within their communities to help shape the
conference and promote active participation.
InternetNZ sees the NetHui conference as a way to further its mission of protecting and promoting the Internet for New Zealand. InternetNZ continues to be the main funder of the conference. With the help of generous sponsors this minimises the registration cost for attendees.
The conference dates have been chosen to be during school holidays and parliamentary recess so that youth, educators and parliamentarians are able to attend.
The website from NetHui 2011 (www.nethui.org.nz) is still live and contains full video of that conference. The site will be updated with preliminary programme details, community supporters and initial sponsors of NetHui 2012 in February 2012 at which time registrations will also open. Social media will be active on Twitter using the account www.twittercom/nethuinz and hashtag #nethui and on Facebook at www.facebook.co.nz/nethuinz .
