Auckland Airport strikes green at sustainability awards

Last night saw Auckland Airport take out two awards at an event held to reward organisations who are leading the way in sustainable business practice.

The 2011 Sustainable 60 Awards, organised by Fairfax Media and Price Waterhouse Coopers, named Auckland Airport as the winner in the ‘Strategy and Governance’ category and presented them with a special commendation for being a finalist in all five categories of the awards.

Martin Fryer, sustainability advisor for Auckland Airport, says “We are delighted with the result. To receive these two awards is acknowledgement from our peers that Auckland Airport really is at the forefront of sustainable business practice in New Zealand.”

“The Strategy and Governance award is a big win for us as it recognises the framework we have put in place, including a clear policy and transparent disclosure, which ensures Auckland Airport can integrate sustainability into everyday business practice.”

The awards, which featured five different categories identified as important for sustainable businesses, also saw Auckland Airport receive a special commendation for being the only business in the country to be named as a finalist across all five of the categories.

“We have a comprehensive sustainability plan in place at Auckland Airport and to be a finalist in all five categories highlights the breadth of our programme,” says Martin.

“The special commendation received at the Sustainable 60 Awards is gratifying as it acknowledges the fact that we truly have embedded sustainability into every part of our business.”
