ASB / Main Report Regional Economic
Scoreboard
September 2011
Quarter
Auckland retains its firm grip on
top spot in the ASB / Main Report Regional Economic
Scoreboard, with construction activity - particularly
non-residential - picking up considerably in the latest
quarter. Southland has climbed to second place, with
consumer confidence in the region now the highest in the
country.
Meanwhile the top half of the South Island
is performing well due to the relocation of people from
earthquake affected areas, with Tasman and Nelson both
edging towards the top of the table. Canterbury remains in
the top half of the rankings, despite the challenges
presented by the earthquakes, and there are encouraging
signs for recovery in the region.
The ASB / Main
Report Regional Economic Scoreboard takes the latest
quarterly regional statistics and ranks the economic
performance of New Zealand’s 16 regional economic areas.
