AngusPure Beef Fills BP Gourmet Pies
New Zealand’s premium beef producer has teamed up with the country’s leading gourmet pie retailer to create a high-quality, lower-fat version of a Kiwi classic.
The AngusPure Steak & Cheese pie will be available from BP’s Wild Bean Cafes across the country.
BP sells about 10 million hot savouries through its Wild Bean Cafes and 2go stores across the country. The pies will be made by Dad’s Pies in Silverdale, who supply the classic and gourmet pies sold in the 80 Wild Bean Cafes across the country.
AngusPure is New Zealand’s premium beef brand. The beef is aged for a minimum of 21 days, has low pH levels, no hormones, and is renowned for its high degree of marbling which provides renowned flavour and juiciness. The steak has a 95% chemical lean value, a measure of the fat content of meat. Common pie meat has 50% chemical lean or less.
Angus New Zealand spokesperson Guy Sargent said the partnership would allow AngusPure to access new markets for its premium product.
“AngusPure beef has forged a reputation for being the leading beef brand in New Zealand. We choose to align our product with partners at the top end of the markets we are targeting.
“We’re really excited to have partnered with BP’s Wild Bean Cafés, which have set the benchmark for fantastic gourmet pies. Top restaurants have long appreciated the quality of angus primal cuts, and it’s good to find a market for the non primal cuts from our top quality carcasses. It is mutually beneficial relationship.
“Our AngusPure brand had gone from strength to strength, and sales volumes and prices of angus cattle are at record levels. At the autumn cattle sales, two year-old bulls were selling for on average $1200 more than last year, with 40% more bulls sold.”
BP New Zealand convenience retail general manager Frank Van Hattum said the AngusPure brand was a perfect fit for BP’s pies.
“Wild Bean Cafes have set the benchmark for gourmet pies, available in convenient locations across New Zealand. They’re all made with local ingredients to great Kiwi recipes in Silverdale.
“Steak and cheese pies are practically a New Zealand institution. This new pie recipe is delivering customers that classic, made with the finest quality ingredient – wherever they are in the country. This is going to appeal to the most discerning pie connoisseur.”
