Rugby World Cup proves a winner for nzherald.co.nz

New Zealand’s passion for the Rugby World Cup was mirrored on nzherald.co.nz with traffic across the website, mobile sites and apps increasing by 28% and the time spent on site lifting by 7.4% for the tournament.

Visual and interactive content such as video, photo galleries and user generated comments played a massive part in the event coverage. Both time spent watching and video consumption increased, 22% and 114% respectively, with 3.7 million video views throughout the 47 day period. Video highlights from every single game were popular as were some of the more light hearted content such as Sonny Bills top ripping or our Lego re-enactments of key All Black’s moments.

Photos were also very popular with 2.6 million gallery views throughout the Cup – a 107% increase. Unsurprisingly the most popular images of the tournament on nzherald.co.nz were of the All Black’s celebrating their Rugby World Cup win.

Editor Jeremy Rees comments, “We’re thrilled with our coverage of the Rugby World Cup from the moment the tournament started right through to the final whistle. We had more video content than ever before and our team of experts offered their take on every game encouraging debate and comments from readers. It was a phenomenal event and it was great to be able to bring the stories from both on and off the field to New Zealand.”
