Barbara Kendall to Inspire at Dress for Success Fundraiser
After 21 years at the top of international windsurfing, including attending five Olympic Games and bringing home three
Olympic medals, Barbara Kendall knows more than most about overcoming obstacles and achieving dreams.
For a firsthand account of the life lessons Barbara has learned along the way and, at the same time, raising money for a
cause close to her heart, Dress for Success Auckland is inviting people to an inspirational afternoon of fabulous food
and entertainment at their annual ‘Suit & Salad’ Luncheon, on Friday 4th November at the Heritage Hotel, Auckland.
Barbara says she is motivated by the work of Dress for Success, a charitable organisation which supports women in
economically difficult circumstances make the transition back into the workforce by providing free, high quality
clothing and presentation advice for job interviews and training.
“I feel privileged to support Dress for Success Auckland. They are a motivated bunch of women, making a big difference
to the lives of other women, collectively empowering them to face the future.”
“I believe it is vital that women work together to support initiatives such as Dress for Success. We can all give
something back to society; it is so important for our hearts and souls. For me, I have always felt that the more we
give, the more we receive. Women are the hub of families and empowering that hub will lead to a better society,” she
says.
Dress for Success Auckland Executive Director, Julie Mackey, says the Suit & Salad luncheon is vital event to raise much needed funds for the organisation.
“Dress for Success Auckland is able to offer women the help and support they need to return to the workforce. As well as
a confidence boost, we are able to provide practical support,” says Julie.
“We rely heavily on fundraising and without the contribution of the wider community we wouldn’t be able to provide the
life changing help so many women need.“

Guests will hear stirring speeches from Barbara Kendall and a former Dress for Success Auckland client while enjoying
superb food and entertainment.
Established in New Zealand in 1999, there are now six affiliate branches across New Zealand in Auckland, Whangarei,
Hamilton, Rotorua, Wellington and Christchurch.
Dress for Success Auckland has already helped over 11,000 women get into the workforce. While referrals are needed for
women to use Dress for Success Auckland, it is not only for women whom are financially poor. The services are for single
mothers, women suffering an illness or recovering from one, women who are required to get back into the workforce to
support her family as well as women on the benefit or from poor socio-economic status. Referral agencies include WINZ,
In-Work New Zealand, Citizens Advice Bureau and other community centres.
