Final 12 Bottles of Te Mata Estate’s Legendary Coleraine ’87 Released for PM’s Showcase

Te Mata Estate is releasing the final 12 bottles of the great Coleraine ’87 to be showcased at the “Best of New Zealand “ celebration, a private event hosted by the Prime Minister Hon John Key for 180 guests, this Saturday evening before the final on Sunday.

Te Mata Estate’s Coleraine, first produced in 1982, is widely recognised as New Zealand’s greatest red wine, with an ability to develop in bottle over 20 to 25 years.

“There’s only one wine with which to celebrate 2011’s historic repeat of the inaugural 1987 final’s clash between the All Blacks and France – Coleraine 1987,” said Te Mata Estate’s Nicholas Buck.

The PM’s guests will enjoy two Coleraines – the youthful 2007, which has been called “the greatest wine ever made in New Zealand”, and the fully mature 1987.

The other 24 bottles of Coleraine ’87 held by Te Mata Estate were released in September as the ultimate celebration wine to recognise the inaugural 1987 victory.

The wine sold in 24 hours at $250 per bottle. Soul Bar on Auckland’s viaduct purchased seven bottles for their customers and the other bottles were sold to private collectors.

The 12 bottle case of Coleraine 1987 that will feature on Saturday night comes direct from Te Mata Estate’s own cellars where it’s been maturing for 24 years.

Each bottle of wine has been uncorked and tested for perfection and all bottles lived up to their international reputation.

Te Mata Estate’s John and Nicholas Buck will present the wine at the Prime Minister’s event.

Nicholas commented “I grew up in the Coleraine house listening to John on New Zealand’s need to compete with the world’s best in the luxury markets. Coleraine has achieved that for us with sales in 35 countries around the world. I can think of no more fitting occasion to enjoy Coleraine than at a celebration of the Best of New Zealand on the eve of an All Black World Cup final.”

Te Mata Estate
