Gen-i to supply Apple products in All-of-Government win

Gen-i has been appointed as one of two suppliers of Apple laptops, desktops and tablets on the All-of-Government laptop and desktop computer procurement panel. The new appointment supplements Gen-i's existing contract with the procurement panel for the supply of Lenovo computers and Phillips monitors and their existing Tahi mobile contract. The panel, which will eventually cover 219 government agencies, 78 councils and 2,500 schools across New Zealand, will deliver cost savings to the government and the taxpayer by harnessing the collective buying power of its State sector agencies.

Administered by the Department of Internal Affairs, the All-of-Government Desktop/Laptop contract improves business efficiency and productivity by streamlining and simplifying the purchasing process for agencies and eliminating the need to issue and review multiple tenders. Agencies also receive improved service by having a central point of contact to deliver their desktop and laptop procurement needs.

Greg Mikkelsen, GM Enterprise Clients, said that the new appointment was recognition of Gen-i's proven track record in delivering tailored solutions that support the growth, development and sustainability of the government's ICT solutions and services.

"Our extensive procurement skills and in-depth knowledge of the government sector, combined with Apple's outstanding product range, means that the Government can reduce the costs of procuring these Apple products. The iPad in particular has seen wide interest in the government sector, particularly education, and it's fantastic to make this product more accessible," he said.

The Apple products available for procurement cover the iPad, iMac, Mac Mini, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air range.

Gen-i was appointed to the All-of-Government laptop and desktop panel following a competitive tender in September 2010. The new agreement for Apple products came into effect from 1 October 2011.
