Secure Management Of Hand-held Workstations A Challenge
Hand-held Workstations the Future – Secure Management the Challenge
With mobile devices clearly emerging as
the workstations of the future and driving increased
productivity across the enterprise, there is increasing
concern from senior executives about controlling and
managing what is on those mobile devices – particularly
company information.
New Zealand ICT company
Techtonics is providing a solution, launching one of the
country’s first fully – and locally – managed
enterprise-wide mobile device management (EMDM) services.
The new managed service, Techmobile, is based on technology
from Airwatch and allows organisations to manage and track
mobile assets, enforce business policies and rules, and
ensure complete security and safety policies are
implemented.
“There is a lot of activity in the
mobile space as organisations look to mobile technology to
enable key business functions with greater productivity,”
says Techtonics CEO Greg Bickerton.
“While most
mobile devices are used for basic functions such as emails
and internet access, as ‘in-the-hand’ workstations,
they’re going to take off. And that means organisations
need to comprehensively and securely manage their
information assets on those devices.”
Organisations
are not bound by a single technology, and the Techmobile
service from Techtonics covers all types of smartphones and
tablets from iPhones to Android phones and Windows Mobile
devices to iPads.
A key difference in Techtonics’ service is local support, from experts here in New Zealand as opposed to offshore support via a web portal. There is no upfront establishment fee and the investment amounts to about the cost two cups of coffee per month per device.
“We have the service running in house, and
there are some important configuring aspects involved when
setting up and supporting such a service. It’s not like a
download from an app store”.
For organisations
seeking to cost-effectively increase their productivity, the
service is a perfect match as it can be integrated with
other emerging mobile technology such as OpenText
Everywhere, also part of Techtonics Information Management
offering.
“This means that not only can you have
full access to your enterprise documents, records, and many
forms of content via your mobile devices, you can also rest
assured that these can be fully and securely managed at an
enterprise level from a web based
console.”
Techtonics is working with Airwatch to
provide a service that is approved for New Zealand
Government agencies by meeting GCSB
requirements.
