The latest ASB/The Main Report Regional Economic Scoreboard, which covers data from the June quarter of 2011, shows NZ's hot region is still Auckland, with the housing market providing the impetus.

Auckland is set to get a further boost from the Rugby World Cup tournament, which will show up in the September quarter data. In the June data Auckland leads the pack on a wide range of measures.

The Super city keeps its place at the top for an eighth consecutive quarter, ahead of Waikato and the Bay of Plenty. Nelson and Tasman rounded out the top 5 of the nation's 16 regions.

Marlborough, Gisborne and Northland make up the bottom three.
