Silver Fern Farms Fly the Flag

5 September 2011

Silver Fern Farms Fly the Flag

Over six weeks, more than 85 000 visitors will grace our shores for one of the world’s biggest sporting events and Silver Fern Farms will be supplying top quality New Zealand grown red meat; lamb, venison and beef into nearly 150 restaurants around the country.

Suppliers were given the opportunity in May to contract supply for the August/September period with over 430 farmers committing 25,000 lambs, 11,000 cattle and over 31,000 deer, in addition to the normal spot market supply. Keith Cooper, Chief Executive, Silver Fern Farms says “we have been really pleased with the response from our existing partners and happy to welcome new ones. It is heartening to see farmers keen to be part of this initiative and for us to all share in a unique event that showcases the best New Zealand has to offer”.

Working in partnership with Bidvest, Silver Fern Farms have signed up nearly 150 of New Zealand’s leading restaurants who will feature a range of cuts on their menus, creating the best red meat experience in the world. “Restaurants have been planning for an influx of visitors in the country for the next couple of months and Silver Fern Farms has assisted both restaurants and farmer partners alike to be able to meet the demand for top class product”. Mr Cooper says.

Featured restaurants include iconic names like Logan Brown and Pravda in Wellington, the Hilton, Auckland and Tatler and Millbrook in Queenstown.

Head Chef at Logan Brown, Shaun Clouston says “we’re pretty excited about being able to promote NZ food to international visitors. It gives us the chance to build on the idea that New Zealand does have its own unique cuisine and that it’s fast becoming world renowned. We’ve been planning since February and are glad we did, some restaurants are starting to worry that they might find themselves left short of supplies”.

He says “we’re always pleased with the product we get from Silver Fern Farms, there’s a real consistency there, and I suspect our venison with beetroot risotto and black pudding will be a real hit.”

Visitors and their local hosts will be able to visit the Fly the Flag page on Silver Fern Farms best cuts, best recipes website for an extensive list of all featured restaurants as well as the opportunity to win one of six $250.00 restaurant vouchers.
