Bannock Brae In Fields Of Gold
The imminent release of the 2009 vintage ‘Goldfields’ Pinot Noir to the New Zealand market is an event for which Crawford & Catherine Brown of Central Otago’s Bannock Brae can justifiably be proud.
Since the Goldfields’ Gold Medal award in the prestigious New Zealand International Wine Show in 2010 the wine has been awarded a further 2 Gold medals, one each in the recent The Spiegelau International Wine Competition and Bragato Wine Awards.
These accolades, along with two 5 Star reviews (Winestate and Geoff Kelly Wine Reviews) for the big brother Barrel Selection 2009 which is sourced from fruit of the same vineyard as the Goldfields wine, give Crawford Brown every reason to continue to assert that Bannock Brae is the most awarded single vineyard Pinot Noir producer in New Zealand.
Crawford notes: ‘Since our first commercial release in 2001, either one of the wines from our slice of heaven has achieved at least Gold medal or 5 star status on 30 occasions from a major NZ wine show or panel tasting/review over 9 vintages.
To then have Michael Cooper give an honourable mention and Best Buy status to our Goldfields Pinot Noir in his recently released 100 Must-Try New Zealand Wines really gives testament to the terroir of the Bannockburn region, and the amazing efforts of our winemaker Jen Parr.’ Crawford continues: ‘Although awards and gongs give Bannock Brae credibility, ultimately we derive most pleasure from seeing the faces of those new converts to our wines after their first sip!’
