Porirua company poised for take-off in European market
Porirua based Radiola Aerospace has achieved what only two other companies world-wide have, approval to conduct the
flight inspection of aeronautical navigation systems in the United Kingdom (UK) under the UK CAA CAP 670 certification
system.
Brent Albiston, Managing Director Radiola Aerospace, says the UK certification is arguably the most stringent flight
inspection approval system in the world and opens the door to the company to work in the UK and throughout Europe.
Already providing these services in many countries throughout the world, the European market was seen as a great
opportunity for further expansion of the company.
“This UK certification adds immense value to our company and provides an opportunity to grow the business quite
significantly beyond where it is now. We currently have 15 staff, we took on three more at the start of this year and
we’ll be taking on more staff over the next 12months – there’s no doubt about that.”
Mr Albiston says this certification represents a considerable investment by Radiola Aerospace. “Mid last year we set up
a subsidiary company in North Yorkshire, England (Radiola Aerospace Europe Ltd), then early this year we appointed a
senior flight inspector based there. In the near future one of our senior managers will transfer to the UK to manage the
European operation.
We have established a teaming agreement for the provision of aircraft and pilots with a local company located close by
our UK base. Aircraft have been modified in Austria and have already been used extensively for flight inspection
missions to Morocco, Sudan and Iraq.
“This has been a major, major effort and now we’ve got certification away we go – it’ll open doors for us and that’s
very very cool. It also means there is another competitor in the UK/Europe market which is a good thing for the
industry,” says Mr Albiston.
Radiola Aerospace has already earned a reputation for being at the top of its field providing flight inspection in the
Pacific, Caribbean, North Africa, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. The company recently had its contract extended to
continue providing flight validation services to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority in Australia. The company also
operates all the ground based navigation aids on behalf of the New Zealand Air Force.
