Regen receives new investment to accelerate
growth – innovative system helps farmers to improve
productivity and environmental performance
Regen Ltd has received fresh investment capital to fund the marketing of this innovative farm-data system, Re:Gen, to dairy farmers and to continue product development.
“Re:Gen helps dairy farmers to improve farm productivity and environmental performance”, says CEO Bridgit Hawkins. “It is a smart decision support tool to help farmers make every day decisions around irrigation and effluent management. With increasing market interest, the recent investment will help Regen to achieve growth potential in New Zealand, and to plan for opportunities offshore.”
Pacific Channel, New Zealand's leading venture creation, development and investment firm focused on start-up and early-stage life science and clean-tech innovation, together with AngelHQ an angel investment club, led the equity investment into Regen Ltd. Brent Ogilvie of Pacific Channel said, “Re:Gen provides farmers with clear recommendations that enables them to manage dairy effluent to comply with environmental standards while increasing farm productivity at a time when there is growing pressure on them to meet effluent-disposal standards.
Bridgit Hawkins
says trials of the system on eight farms around New Zealand
have shown it reduces artificial fertiliser costs and
prevents ponds from overflowing. “We believe Re:Gen is
the most advanced effluent monitoring solution on the rural
market. Having more information helps you to manage farms
more efficiently”, says Bridgit.
Re:Gen collects data
on rainfall, soil moisture, soil temperature and effluent
pond levels and transmits readings to a centralised data
base. The software analyses this information and based on
its knowledge of site specific soil characteristics (and
using its proprietary algorithms) generates daily action
recommendations that farmers can access via mobile devices
or computer.
Re:Gen was developed by Harmonic, a specialised analytics and solutions provider based in Wellington. The Re:Gen system was launched in March 2010 and is managed through Regen Ltd, led by CEO, Bridgit Hawkins. Development assistance was received from partners Massey University and Gen-i with support from Dairy NZ and the Ministry of Science and Innovation (formerly the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology (FRST)).
