Rimutaka Hill roadworks incident

Construction firm Hawkins says a serious incident occurred yesterday afternoon on State Highway 2 in the Rimutaka Ranges, north of Wellington, where the company is realigning Muldoon's corner.

An earth moving vehicle rolled down a bank, and the driver has been taken to Wellington Hospital with suspected serious leg injuries.

All work at the scene of the incident has been suspended, the site has been secured and the Department of Labour notified. An investigation into the incident is underway by both Hawkins and the Department of Labour.

Support is being offered to staff on the site.
