BNZ mobile apps flying off the shelves
BNZ’s newly launched suite of mobile banking applications exceeded the Bank’s expectations with the service being accessed over 122,000 times and more than $27 million worth of transactions and bill payments made in just 8 weeks.
BNZ’s mobile banking service launched on June 30 with an iPhone app and mobile banking website, followed five weeks later by New Zealand’s first dedicated Android app for mobile banking. During this time these two applications have been downloaded more than 22,000 times by Kiwis eager to get their banking done on the go.
BNZ’s head of online, Rogan Clarke, attributes the rapid uptake to flourishing demand for mobile services from the banking sector.
“People are increasingly using smartphones to get things done these days, and banking plays a major part in enabling a wider range of activities. We’re not surprised at all to see such great numbers and wide spread use of our new mobile banking services, what did surprise us was that we hit these figures in less than two months.”
A Morgan Stanley analyst predicts that by 2012, worldwide shipments of smartphones will exceed shipments of PC’s, with a greater number of people accessing the worldwide web through mobile.
Andy Symons, BNZ Director – Retail, says that having more ways for customers to interact with their bank is essential in the modern banking world.
“People want to get things done on their own terms these days, especially when it comes to banking. By broadening the number of ways with which people can interact with us, we’re ensuring our customers can receive more of a tailored banking experience.”
