KVH Japan signs for SMX cloud email security service

KVH Japan signs for SMX cloud email security service

Auckland, 24 August 2011.

Cloud-based email security provider SMX Limited has signed a licensing and support agreement with KVH, one of Japan's leading information delivery platforms providing IT and communication solutions.

The agreement will see KVH replace their existing cloud-based email security service with the SMX service to meet KVH's requirement for carrier-grade inbound and outbound email filtering, locally-hosted in its own datacenters and made available to KVH customers under its own brand.

Joseph Duhamel, Executive Vice President of Systems and Technology for KVH, says KVH will use the SMX platform to offer their own-branded inbound and outbound email filtering service - MailScan MX - to customers throughout Japan.

"We selected SMX after a worldwide search for a number of reasons. Most important is the ability of SMX to deliver a carrier-grade service which we can run on our own servers in our own datacenters, with all mail filtered locally. Local email filtering is an important requirement for many Japanese companies and Government departments," Duhamel says.

"We were also impressed with the ease with which SMX handles customer provisioning and billing and the willingness of SMX to stand behind the very high levels of accuracy in email filtering which our customers expect and demand."

SMX CEO Jesse Ball says the sale to KVH is highly strategic for SMX as it rapidly expands its customer base throughout the Asia Pacific region.

"KVH is highly regarded as one of the most innovative network and managed service companies in Japan - valued for its network speed, agility, and high quality of service and multilingual support. KVH is particularly well known as the provider of very high speed 'low latency' fiber networks to major Japanese financial sector customers, including the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Osaka Securities Exchange, the Tokyo Commodity Exchange and the Tokyo Financial Exchange. KVH recently opened the most modern datacenter facility in Japan- which survived the recent major earthquake unscathed. KVH is also a pioneer in the provision of sophisticated cloud services.

"We are absolutely delighted that such a savvy and sophisticated technology company has selected the SMX service to complement their cloud strategy," Jesse Ball said.

Major international partners include Symantec, Fujitsu, Message Systems, CMC India (a Tata Group subsidiary) and Tsukaeru.net, Japan's fastest growing provider of hosted applications and services.
