New Zealand Pork Appoints New Chairman
Ian Carter has been elected as the new Board Chairman for New Zealand Pork.
With former Chairman Chris Trengrove indicating his intention to step down as a director in 2012, the appointment of
Carter will allow a smooth handing over of the reigns.
“Chris has been on the Board for 14 years and Chairman for nine, which is a tremendous achievement and he’s led the
industry well,” said Mr Carter.
“It will be great to have his ongoing experience and assistance as I step into the role,” Mr Carter adds.
Carter and his wife Jan farm in North Otago running a 200 sow farrow to finish piggery in conjunction with a beef cattle
operation. Ian and Jan are both active in the local community. Ian is currently the President of North Otago Junior
Tennis and was previously the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the local school and Chairman of the water
committee. Jan is a member of the local Rural Fire brigade.
The pair purchased their Otago property in 2003, having spent 15 years in the Auckland area working initially with pig
breeding company PIC, then with Green and McCahill which included a 550 sow piggery. Mr Carter then became the General
Manager of McCahill Investments who hold significant rural and commercial assets on the Auckland region.
Mr Carter is enthusiastic about the industry. “It’s been very good to me and my family, providing us with a great
lifestyle and financial security”.
“I believe it offers excellent career opportunities domestically and internationally and I’m keen to see it promoted
better to all New Zealanders, especially to kids in schools, who are our future investors, workers and consumers,” said
