Fast turnaround for Waterview contract due to smooth consents process
Changes to the consenting process have meant the Waterview Connection motorway has come to market much faster than it
would have under the old system, the Contractors’ Federation said today.
Federation Chief Executive Jeremy Sole congratulated the Well-Connected consortium, which was announced by the NZ
Transport Agency as the preferred tenderers for the $1.4billion contract.
Jeremy Sole said it was only last month that the consents were approved and already a group of New Zealand and
international companies had been given the contract to start work in November.
“We’re really pleased that it’s come to the market so quickly. And it’s mainly due to the new consents process that this
has happened in such a short time,” he said.
“The earlier the project starts, the sooner we will see the benefits to the region that we expect it will have.”
“Having said that, we feel for those that didn’t get chosen as it was a costly bid process. We hope that those companies
will bid for other parts of the project as it progresses.”
Jeremy Sole said the Contractors’ Federation believes the Waterview Connection project will make a huge difference to
the Auckland economy and to Auckland’s livability.
